The new Cohousing-L archives are ready! There's a link on the: Cohousing-L Info Page: http://www.cohousing.org/cohousing-L (Actually there's a link to the old archives too, for now.) The new archives are all in Mhonarc format as were most of the old archives. Unlike the old, they are not broken down into yearly (or monthly) chunks. 200 message index pages are linked together. We passed 20,000 messages recently so there are over 100 index pages. There is a good search engine (Namazu). For now we don't have the subject search back but Namazu ranks subject line hits highly and therefore shows them first typically. There is also a way to restrict searches to the subject line. See page of search "tips" linked from the bottom of the hit results page. A current shortcoming is lack of a way to see more than the first 50 hits - a fix is coming. To see a date range of messages, search for "jan 1999" for example. (Use quotes in search form and ONE space). To get to an index page that includes a "hit", go to the "hit" message and then to the it's "Date" link. The archives include a clever way to "obscure" poster's addresses and also addresses mentioned in messages are obscured. Tho it complicates writing to addresses from the archives ( a bit of editing is required), it should prevent addresses from being harvested by SPAMmers. Note that as of now, links from one message to another will break when the old CSF archives go away as expected. I'm pondering an old url to new url translation facility ie old-year/message_number to new_message_number. I want to thank CSF very much for hosting the list archives for the last 8 years. While studying the new archives and the Namazu search, I realized that the archives include some great messages. I suspect there is the basis for some books and research in there.
