There are several co-housing communities in the Denver, Colorado area.
Also, in Southwestern Colorado, Salt Lake City, and Santa Fe.   Why are you
going through the Wyoming Red Desert?  (Rawlins is so ugly and desolate,
that the state prison was located there.)
