I am also a member of Champlain Valley Cohousing, having been reading and enjoying the list for the last month or so. Kelly can respond for herself, but I wanted to point out that while I am hearing some good suggestions, some posters seem to think that Kelly's innocent "got any further ideas folks?" was a plea for a complete how to do it manual. We are half sold. We are a very vibrant diverse group, every single one so far drawn by their attraction to the others and a remarkably common vision. The synergy as well as the willingness to work incredibly hard has been astounding. CVC has been in creation for a good 5 years, with a tremendous amount of homework going into how we are planning to be a community... from our decision making process to work requirements to how to steward our 125 beautiful acres. For my part, my ears pricked up the most hearing Anne's point, not because we are trying to find "home buyers", but maybe there is wisdom in truly being prepared to wait as long as it takes to build some proportion of the community (we didn't think of ourselves as so big....only 26 households). When you have financing in hand, that becomes a powerful element, as do escalating building costs, but maybe that should be stepped back from at a certain point. That is a helpful thought. Nonetheless, we would always still want to beat the bushes for potential fellow travelers, which is what Kelly was originally asking for ideas on. And we will certainly look to partner with other cohousers. Lucy Beck Champlain Valley Cohousing www.champlainvalleycohousing.org
