We also built our own playground here at Songaia Cohousing but there was
nothing particularly unique about it. I don't recall us ever discussing
insurance issues around it but I suspect our insurance policy covers
liability for the type of incidents you describe. 

I would love to hear more details about your design and even see it once
its done if you are willing to share it and have it in electronic form.
