Just adding a datapoint on the coho clothesline continuum:

New View (Acton MA, suburbs of Boston) has a few clothesline & a few
drying racks. No restrictions. I occasionally use a drying rack,
especially in the summer. On our site, the only ones who would see a
clothesline are our coho neighbors -- we've got trees and roads
surrounding us -- so we don't need to be concerned about what others
think..
