Both Great Oak and Touchstone cohousing in Ann Arbor, Michigan are factory-built housing. Great Oak used Royal Homes out of Ontario, Canada and Touchstone used a Midwest supplier (can't remember the name; maybe someone from Touchstone will weigh in). You can check out what a "factory-built" cohousing community looks like here: www.gocoho.org (where we currently have two 3-BR units for sale) www.touchstone.org (where there are currently units for sale, but I don't know for how much or what type) There should plenty of detail in the archives about this, because there was a long discussion about the benefits of prefab / factory-built housing on this listserve about six months ago. Factory-built can save you a lot of money but learn a lesson from us and keep customization to a minimum.
