I've been reading postings about pros and cons of getting co-housing
communities built using a self-developer approach versus hiring an
outside development company. There have been a few comments comparing
costs between the two approaches, so I wonder if anyone would comment
on methods used by different communities to figure out what they
consider to be fair compensation for community members who serve as
project developers (hiring the architects, contractor, etc.). Should
such compensation be considered a fixed cost of the project ? Are
community members ok with fellow members who serve as self developers
realizing a profit on the development? What level of profit? It seems
that this arrangement may create some tension between the developers
and the rest of the community, and comments on that would be welcome
as well. Comments on or off line would be very much appreciated.
