We get our e-mail at work through gmail, with some kind of business account.
Easy accessibility from anywhere is good; I won't dwell on other complaints I
have about its appearance. But one thing is worth noting: When an administrator
in our agency accidentally deleted the account of a staff member in my office,
all messages and lots of other documents she had stored there were gone
forever. I was disappointed that Google doesn't back up and preserve stuff for
at least a little while in case of such errors.

I have a gmail account and it invites me every time i send an email to
invite the recipient to get gmail, so i'm assuming this guy was not
advertizing but accidentally hit the button that sends the invitation, and
unfortunately sent it to the entire listserv. i've heard the same story,
tom, and am in big trouble if that happens to me, but am (maybe stupidly)
trusting that google will not lose my entire life/calendar/address book/
etc/etc/!!!!!!!! we are all so dependent on technology, eh?
