East Bay Cohousing
Weekly Events Calendar
Week of February 23, 2009

Welcome to East Bay Cohousing (EBCOHO)! We're here to help you find or
co-create your home in an intentional neighborhood, here in the
greater Berkeley-Oakland area, the urban core of the San Francisco Bay
Area. We've got more than 700 members on our list (the largest
regional intentional communities MeetUp group in the world), helping
people and communities connect through:

* education about community living, finance, and housing development

* cohousing coaching, helping people move from talk about community to
concerted action

* matchmaking between cohousers, groups, seekers, professionals, and
sites in the area

* research and studies on the market, potential sites

* marketing and outreach planning and implementation, online, in
person, and in traditional media

* facilitation, training and group development services

This week we've got a lot going on in our area, including:

* a new ready-to-build group with an entitled site in central Berkeley
(the first in 15 years) taking shape, holding an orientation this
Sunday afternoon at the EBCOHO clubhouse (our office/workshop space
near the downtown Berkeley subway and farmer's market, sponsored by
the Cohousing Coaches)

* our region's strongest core group, North Oakland cohousing, holding
a rare public orientation this Saturday afternoon in -- you guessed it
-- North Oakland (although the group is now looking at other East Bay
neighborhoods as well)

* cohousing co-founder architect/author Katie McCamant giving a slide
show and mini-tour of the continent's most urban cohousing
neighborhood, Swan's Market Cohousing in downtown Oakland Wednesday
evening

* Fellowship for Intentional Community (FIC) head Laird Schaub from
Sand Hill Farm in Missouri in potluck and conversation Thursday
evening at the EBCOHO clubhouse in downtown Berkeley

* A Twin Oaks community veteran and author talking about Peak Oil and
community solutions to challenges tonight (Tues.), at the EBCOHO
clubhouse in downtown Berkeley

* A participatory viewing and discussion of President Obama's budget
address to the joint session of Congress late this (Tuesday)
afternoon, at the EBCOHO clubhouse in downtown Berkeley

And don't forget to save your seat for the first 2009 Coho/US bus tour
of East Bay Cohousing neighborhoods, coming up in just a few weeks.
You can get tickets via the Coho/US website, or, for paid annual
EBCOHO members, you can get $20 off by buying your ticket through us.
Plus tickets have just gone on sale for a first-ever affordable senior
co-ops and cohousing bus tour from Berkeley to Davis May 2, put on by
Bay Area Community Land Trust (BACLT) and co-sponsored by EBCOHO, with
$20 discounts for paid annual EBCOHO members. And we're partnering
again with the sustainability education leaders at Daily Acts to
repeat last year's popular "Cohousing Crawl" walking tour (date not
yet set); we expect some bicycle tours as well, once things dry off a
bit. ;-)

You can learn about all of these events, other forming groups, rental
and purchase opportunities in established cohousing neighborhoods in
the area, other core groups, and our very-affordable memberships (as
little as $10 a month, or $100 a year, including discounts, books and
services worth far more) via our website

(free registration required to access some pages and event details)
