Here's a Bay Area opportunity to learn more about European cohousing models - in a beautiful US community, the most urban. Scroll down for more about upcoming gatherings in the area -- and join East Bay Cohousing (it's free) to get advance notice of these. See our cohousing.org classified ad for updates as we add events. Raines Cohen, Cohousing Coach East Bay Cohousing http://www.ebcoho.org/ - Subject: [ebcoho] Austrian Cohousing founder talk Wed. nite (Old Oakland) Announcing a new Meetup for East Bay Cohousing - Berkeley/Oakland/Emeryville/SF area! What: Austrian Cohousing founder talk (Old Oakland) When: October 7, 2009 7:30 - 9:00 PM Suggested Donation: $10.00 per person (half price for sustaining EBCOHO members) Where: Swan's Market Cohousing, Old Oakland (CA) (RSVP for address & directions - just 12 minutes by subway from downtown SF) Please join us in welcoming to the U.S. Irmgard Kravogel, "Burning Soul" and co-founder of Lebensraum, Austria's first (and so far, only) cohousing neighborhood. See what cohousing in Europe looks like and feels like, and talk about the process of creating community there. Lebensraum, started in 2001 and fully occupied by 2005, is an "eco-settlement" located in a rural agricultural area near Vienna. 32 homes are clustered in a car-free settlement, with extensive common facilities. Austrian government incentives led the group to build extremely energy-efficient homes; 82 people live there now, including many young children. Common dinners are held 4 times a week. Note: Special thanks to Bonnie from Swan's for hosting us. Optional dutch-treat dinner/drinks beforehand starting around 6:30 PM at Pacific Coast Brewery, across Washington street (they make a mean root beer). Learn more, see pictures, and RSVP here: http://www.ebcoho.org/calendar/11569681/ Visit the East Bay Cohousing MeetUp and check our calendar to learn about and RSVP for many other events this week, including: * Aging In Community talk (Thurs. AM, San Leandro) * Teleconference workshop for facilitators (Thurs. PM, Berkeley) * Open house at Addison Court Housing Co-op (Thurs. eve, Berkeley) * Inside Burning Man talk (Fri. noon, Berkeley) * Sierra Club potluck (Fri. eve, Berkeley) * Climate Action Group lunch series (Mondays noon, Berkeley) and more. We are exploring potential sites in: * Pacifica (approved for development and "shovel-ready") * El Sobrante (potential senior and intergenerational cohousing) * West Berkeley (retrofit neighborhood) * Downtown Berkeley (approved development site but still a long shot for cohousing) Where would you like to live in community? How can we help you learn about the options and co-create your own intentional neighborhood? We're here to help.
