Hello, writing from rural Viroqua, Wisconsin to ask a few questions for our group, Stone's Throw Ecovillage. We've been meeting for two years, have 5 member households along with a few more active visitors. We have property criteria and hope to expand our membership and purchase land this year. We see that most cohousing communities form an LLC for the development stage, followed by an HOA or Cooperative at move-in. What is the advantage of forming two entities? Can we use just one? Have any communities formed a non-profit corporation for ownership of the land or in place of a home owner's association? Thanks, Jerry
