Not only ugly exit signs, but we found that the fire alarm system took away
wall space from our otherwise functional floor plan:

- In the entry, the whole wall on one side is uglified by fire alarm
equipment, and we aren't allowed to block it, so this meant that we had to
choose between keeping an attractive, welcoming table, wall hanging, and
umbrella stand, or a large metal coat rack in our entry. (We opted for
aesthetics and moved the coat rack to the far side of the great room.)

- In our corner sitting area, we can't have a chair blocking the fire alarm
wall pull.

- Worst of all, in our cozy library, where we like to hold smaller meetings,
chairs are not allowed along one wall because the exit door and fire alarm
pull can't be blocked.

We wish our otherwise wonderful architects had taken these requirements into
account because we were too naïve to have foreseen them.

Kay

Does anyone know of exit signs that are more attractive than the standard
sign. I did a quick google search and found nothing even close to
attractive.

We are beginning a project to refurbish our CH and I realized that no matter
how sophisticated our color scheme is or how wonderful our furniture, we
will still have the horrible exit signs large enough for an auditorium
shining out at us.

Sharon.
