A few years ago coho/US did some research and concluded there were around 120 
completed cohousing communities in the US.  I would guess that figure has grown 
by. between 10 and 20 since then.  You can go to the directory at cohousing.org 
and count.  You will note there are an almost equal number in some stage of 
formation or development.  However, it is my observation that a majority of 
efforts to form a new cohousing community do not succeed, for many different
