I know of a couple of communities of 6, and I live in a community of 11 households. I like the high participation rate and the intimacy of my small community. On the other hand, it can be hard to get all the work done if more than one person is temporarily unable to take on much. There was a survey done some years ago which seemed to show that people who lived in mid sized communities ( I think it was 13-33 households) were more satisfied with their comunities than people smaller or larger communities.
