Hello,

If you live in the greater Vancouver area or lower mainland or islands of
British Columbia, or know someone there who may be interested in learning
Sociocracy, here's an upcoming event. Sociocracy (also called Dynamic
Governance) isa governance and decision-making method that I especially
recommend for cohousing,

Sheella Mierson and I from The Sociocracy Consulting Group are
presenting a three-day workshop in the Vancouver area Saturday-Monday, January
31- Feb. 2, 2015. It will be held at Windsong Cohousing, 20543 96th Avenue,
Langley. 9:00 – 5:30 each day.

I'll be the main presenter. Sheella will present about how any of the
practices may differ for businesses and nonprofits.
>
> Sociocracy is based on the principles of transparency, equivalence, and
> effectiveness. When a community uses Sociocracy correctly, their governance
> process tends to become far more enjoyable and effective than when using
> consensus.
>
> “We’ve made more decisions in the past two months than we have in the
> past two years!” —Davis Hawkowl, Pioneer Valley Cohousing, Massachusetts,
> US.
> “A visitor said she’d never seen a community meeting be so effective,
> efficient,
> and fun!” —Hope Horton, Hart's Mill Ecovillage, Chapel Hill,
> North Carolina, US.
>
> $295 Early-Bird Registration through December 31. $335 beginning
> January 1. People can bring a lunch or sign up for a catered lunch for
> $15.00. Shuttle service to Windsong Cohousing from King George SkyTrain
> station.
>
> My intention for the workshop is that afterwards participants know
> how to start applying Sociocracy in their community or organization if they
> like, or to start a study group to generate further interest. The workshop
> includes an extensive handout booklet, revised and better Hobbit Skits, and
> wall posters illustrating each of the four meeting processes. It includes
> follow-up Skype calls or emails to answer questions at no charge. I’ll be
> the main workshop leader and my Sociocracy consultant friend Sheella Mierson
> will present how Sociocracy differs for businesses and nonprofits.

> More about the benefits of using Sociocracy in community . . .
>
> Comments from Aldeafeliz Ecovillage in Colombia after the first six
> months after my workshop there, as reported by ecovillage co-founder Anamaria
> Ariztizabal.
> * More effective management.
> * Better follow-up to our decisions, which no longer fall into a ‘black
> hole’ of exhaustion.
> * A clearer sense of responsibility about who does what in our
> community.
> * Information
> flows better, creating greater transparency.
> * A stronger cohesion. Our meetings are faster and lighter, with a
> rhythm that feels satisfying.
> * At the end of our last meeting we started dancing for joy!
>
> An Introductory presentation on Sociocracy will be led by Sheella
> Mierson on Thursday, January 22nd, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at VantagePoint
> training room, 1183 Melville St., Vancouver. For more information about this
