The new minimalist sites — the ones that work vertically so you start with a photograph and scroll down with big letters are designed so they work on smartphones. It’s a trend I wish would stay with smartphones. I rarely ever look at a website on a small screen. Websites used to have one version for smartphones and another for desktop/laptops. But small screens have become so variable in size that designers have given up. They use one design for all. Good photographs are hard to find. People send me 72dpi photos from their smartphones without good cameras. With Retina displays, that isn’t good enough.
