Eris Weaver is a highly rated facilitator and lives in FrogSong (Right?). She has also written a nice little book on discussing financial issues. "Let’s Talk About Money." http://www.erisweaver.info/books.html We are on the wrong side of the country to work with her. > What to do if someone can no longer afford to live here but doesn't want to > leave even though it is holding us back from getting a better refinance. > (this hasn't exactly happened, but could soon) Retirement communities have various schemes for dealing with this. The Kendall life care communities, originally Quaker, have a policy of not excluding residents who are no longer able to afford living there. They have various ways of coping. I would contact one of them. The literature on life care communities may also have this information. Of course, with their population, they are talking about a period of time that is almost guaranteed to be only a few years at best. And in the first place, they are much more careful about ensuring as best they can that a person can afford to live there. Please keep writing about how this proceeds. This is a problem for any group of people with common financial investments, particularly real estate which is a deteriorating asset. Either you maintain and improve it to keep up with industry standards, or you lose it. Sharon ---- Sharon Villines Takoma Village Cohousing, Washington DC http://www.takomavillage.org
