But on NextDoor, since membership is restricted by address, know where you live 
and have confirmed your identity. With no effort they can geographically market 
to you.

This is happening on many sites not only with the ads you are shown, but with 
content as well. On a list for editors and copywriters that I’m on recently 
discussed an article in which the locations mentioned were within a certain 
geographic distance of the reader. This was in an advertiser-sponsored article 
on a public website — not a membership site. 

I do a lot of research online for products for community purchase. Almost 
instantly, those products or similar ones show up in ads on my Facebook page. 

I have a $15 program for Macs, Cookies, that according to your settings will 
automatically erase, all cookies, tracking cookies, or non-favorite cookies. I 
keep cookies from sites I use frequently. There must be something similar for 
PCs.

But Facebook seems to have its own tracking system I have yet to discover.
