Another thing to consider is the cleaning habits and desires of present and
future cleaners. We were going along nicely when a new resident moved in who is
demon cleaner. That is wonderful for the laundry room but she was using steel
wool in the kitchen to get the drain pans under the gas burners clean.
Stainless steel (Brillo pads, etc.) should not be used on stainless steel.

Stainless steel is a surface over another metal (brass?) and over time will be
worn off with too aggressive cleaning. Same for stainless pots, etc.

Stainless steel also scratches the surface so it is no longer easy to clean. It
took a while to find out who was doing this since she isn’t a cook or cleaner.
It just bothered her.

So when you decide on a surface, think about how people may use and clean it.
We just rejected the recommended best dishwasher because the controls were too
difficult to use and placed in a accessibly awkward place (on top of the door).
They also had so many options it was confusing. Nothing to push that just said
"wash."
