Greetings from Earthsong, in Aotearoa/New Zealand! Many of us in NZ are starting to use the maori word "rahui" instead of 'lockdown', explained below: "What is a 'Rāhui'? A community gives power to a rāhui by upholding it and being a part of it. Rāhui is a tikanga (custom) used by our tūpuna (elders or ancestors) to look after us, both physically and spiritually. Rāhui is empowering, it unifies us, it encourages us all to take responsibility for our collective wellbeing." i.e. it is not (or not just) something imposed by the authorities, but a practise we follow to safeguard each other. A bit like the difference between "rules" imposed by others, and agreements we make between us in cohousing. It's part of the paradigm shift that cohousing is and has been incubating. Distancing For Health or Safe Distancing or Distance to Defeat The Virus (or just Distance to Defeat with the rest understood) or Healthy Space ot The Gift of Healthy Space. etc. Diane On Thu, Apr 9, 2020 at 4:53 PM Liz Ryan Cole via Cohousing-L < cohousing-l [at] cohousing.org> wrote: > Actually I am hearing a big shift here in Vermont/NH to the term > physical distancing. here is one article that has gotten quite a bit of circulation. > > > https://www.eagletimes.com/opinion/social-distancing-is-a-misnomer/art > icle_7f9a20d4-c488-56b4-9e62-e3af70a83f40.html?fbclid=IwAR3uj_JT6Iyhfj > _rsS9m5XlfwSOTrtZufAbJMRdhGVvw7U0zbL0tY51GaH0 > < > https://www.eagletimes.com/opinion/social-distancing-is-a-misnomer/art > icle_7f9a20d4-c488-56b4-9e62-e3af70a83f40.html?fbclid=IwAR3uj_JT6Iyhfj > _rsS9m5XlfwSOTrtZufAbJMRdhGVvw7U0zbL0tY51GaH0 > > > > > liz > > > Liz Ryan Cole > Pinnacle Project > Lyme, NH > > > On Apr 9, 2020, at 4:43 PM, Diana Carroll <dianaecarroll [at] gmail.com> > wrote: > > > > I like the term physical distancing instead, but I'm afraid the > > "social distancing" ship has already sailed. > > > _________________________________________________________________ > Cohousing-L mailing list -- Unsubscribe, archives and other info at: > http://L.cohousing.org/info > > > > -- Diane Margolis 175 Richdale Av.
