Culture Foundation for Consensus or Sociocracy - Part A

May 14 and 21, 2pm - 6pm Pac, 5pm-9pm East

Creating a culture of trust and mutual care is an essential foundation for
any egalitarian decision- making approach. Both consensus and sociocracy
depend on the goodwill and supportive behavior of members to function
well. This course will guide community members in developing and
supporting that culture. Each member of the community can, by doing their
own work, shift the community toward a more successful consensus or
sociocracy process.

The course is made up of three parts (A, B, and C) which can be taken in
any order. Each part is 8 hours of instruction divided into four 2-hour
lessons. The parts are offered either as a weekly series for four weeks,
or as two 4-hour sessions on weekend days.

Part A will be offered in two Saturday sessions of 4 hours each (May 14
and 21, 2pm - 6pm Pac, 5pm-9pm East). It covers Self Work, Building Trust,
Personality Differences, and Sharing Feedback. Cost of the course is $80
per person, no charge for members of Karen’s client communities.

Facilitation - Part 1

Thur. May 5, 12, 19, 26, 1-3pm Pac, 4-7 East ($80 for Part 1 or $200 for
the full series)

Part 1 is taught by Teri Grunthaner. Karen Gimnig will be teaching Parts 2
and 3 in June and July at the same day and time to complete the series.

The Facilitator Series is a beginner primer for facilitation of community
meetings. This series consists of 3 Parts. Each part is made up of four
2-hour sessions.

Part 1 covers relational basics for facilitators: reading the room,
contracting with the group, listening, seeking common ground, and staying
in the facilitator role. In addition to learning specific skills and
strategies, each facilitator will be invited to self-reflection and
personal growth along with practice.

Conflict - Part 3 (available to those who have completed PREREQUISITES)

Wed, May 4, 11, 18, 25, 4-6 pm Pac, 7-9 pm East ($80 per person)

Working productively with conflict is one of the biggest challenges of
cohousing and the biggest opportunity for growth. The three-part conflict
series covers strategies for working effectively with our own conflicts,
maximizing the growth and learning we experience in conflict, and
supporting others in conflict. Part 3 focuses on helping pairs with
conflict.

Karen’s client communities participate in these courses at no additional
cost. Others are welcome to join us at a cost of $80 per part or $200 for a
full series when available. Payments are made separately from course
registration and can be sent via paypal or check.
