Just about every cohousing community I’m aware of is ecologically proactive. Sharing things helps us to live more lightly. Attention to energy conservation is prevalent. Not all ecovillage communities use the cohousing residential model, but many do and the others tend to be sympathetic. I know that both ideas are promoted under the umbrella of the Foundation for Intentional Community. But, in these critical times, I wish the broad movement would become more social-change oriented, and I think the ‘ecovillage’ concept has the most potential in that regard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFJdr8fwJUA The ecovillage concept can become ubiquitous and generalized via urban infill projects (in addition to the rural agro-communities which tend to come to mind): https://www.kailashecovillage.org/ I’m simply advocating for more in the way of synergistic movement building: Networks of ecovillage cohousing communities as the basis for the much-needed greening of our society.
