On a page, hiding hides it from everyone except the admins, and the person who posted the comment. The admins can see it in grey if they choose. Admins can also hide comments on an event owned by a page. We discovered that some of the posts are by bots. They get local people riled, and give them the confidence to reply. So hiding drops the total volume of attacks way down. (When I say "we" I mean the police told me this after researching. Ours included threats to burn our building down and to attend with knives and guns, so we reported it to the police. They tracked down who was local, who was a real person but not local, and who was probably a bot.) Liz at Mosaic Commons cohousing in Berlin mass.
