Each month, Sociocracyforall.org hosts an intentional communities “Advocates” gathering <https://forums.sociocracyforall.org/c/communities-of-practice/intentional-community/14> where members from dozens of sociocratically run communities can share their questions and solutions with each other about building, running and supporting intentional communities. Here is a question and some of the responses offered at the June Advocates gathering. Interested to hear your thoughts about this topic. Q.How can we engage the time-pressed young parents in our community who are reluctant to attend our meetings? A. It's important to make it easy for young families to participate. Can the community help with childcare during meeting times? Can the meetings be scheduled at better times for them? Help these families connect socially with the community first. That can increase interest and engagement. Make it fun for the kids, and use Zoom for playing, not just meetings. Sociocracy training can help a lot. Our community members train in sociocracy first, then they start attending meetings. Knowing the basics and the community values our meetings are founded on can help people engage, and knowing the values - the reasons we do what we do - can be motivating.
