There is so much that could be said about the latest book on developing a
cohousing community. “Community Led Housing: A Cohousing Development Approach”
by Ronaye Matthew and Margaret Critchlow is _comprehensive_. Totally. This goes
on the shelf next to Chuck and Katie’s first book on cohousing.

It covers everything from a professional point of view. This is the book you
can give to your local architect, developer, and cohousing wanna-be group and
follow like a how-to-do-it manual. The authors are members of Cohousing
Development Consulting (CDC) which has developed 11 cohousing communities, most
in British Columbia CA.

The structure and completeness of the text show that they have written and
rewritten drafts with each of those communities, correcting, clarifying, and
adding material. Communities Magazine I’m sure has a detailed review in the
works and I’ve already typed too much today so you will just have to send for a
copy. It’s available on Amazon and I’m sure the FIC bookstore website.

My only complaint would be the title. It’s a book on developing a cohousing
community so the title is misleading. I was hoping for a book that discussed
the application of the cohousing development process to developing stronger
communities in existing neighborhoods. One that responded to the question asked
last week "How do I do cohousing in my trailer park?” As wonderful as this one
is, that one still needs to be written.
