Dear Neighbors, Far and Near, re: Cohesiveness of community after a sale? aka Outreach/sales/re-sales/turnover Maybe what we are doing here at Cantines Island is a stretch! We are in a beautiful beautiful region and right here where we live is so lovely. we are in a region of lots of arts of every kind. We have a children’s play structure in the middle of the commons, a wonderful statement—— tho, after almost 30 years, our kids keep growing up and leaving! We do have 5.5 kids now: one is here part time. And yet we have not developed a waiting list of Participating Members, folks who would like to live here when a home becomes available. We are now going in that direction so that when a house is going to be sold, we have at least the possibility of it going to someone who knows us, understands that there’re expectations of participation and work. and also tons of fun. We ask folks to come to potlucks, and generally be around as possible. We invite folks to become a Participating Member, $50 for 3 months, get a buddy, etc. It is clear that as illustrated by the brilliant work of Ann Zabaldo and buddies, involving folks way before a house sale is wise. Also, someone on this List pointed out that recently there have been a number of CoHo houses for sale and that they lead with a lot of information re: very attractive houses. Then info re: the community is next. If we want folks who want community, we want to offer our community, we’d want that to be the lead.
