We have similar policies to Heartwood. We say, “close friends and family” can stay for free. For others the asking rate is $50/night. There can be pressure on our room at times, so we also say that guests can stay for 3 days, then they can get bumped if someone else wants it. However, all guests need to be hosted by an individual. That person is responsible for all arrangements, making sure the guest knows our policies, cleaning up afterwards in time for the next guest, and deciding and collecting any money that is charged. Even though $50 is a low cost compared to any other accommodations in our town, some people can’t afford that and pay less. We leave it up to their host to ask and accept the payment. Sometimes our membership team will pass on a message asking for housing to our list serve, and if someone wants to host them, they will write the person back. We definitely are more likely to respond to a request from members of other cohousing communities.
