Update on a previous posting: River Song Cohousing in Eugene, Oregon has a
ground-floor 3/2 unit available for sale. The price has been reduced to
$599,900, which is market rate for the area and for cohousing in the PNW.
Because I must relocate out of state due to family needs, I am willing to
consider all reasonable offers. In other words, make me an offer I can’t refuse!
Now is an excellent time to become a member of River Song. This
multi-generational community is vibrant and diverse, welcoming families and
individuals of all ages. In RSC's 28 households, there are residents from 8
months old to 80-something. We have eight children 10 & under, a few teens and
20-somethings, several members representing the parenting years of the age
spectrum, and the rest 55+.
The connectedness and support of members is meaningful and real, evidenced via
the deep love and practical help provided to one of our families as they
struggled through the recent serious illness and passing of a member. There is
also much support for the younger families, and the kids are thriving. It’s a
joy to see.
As Thanksgiving approaches, there is much to be thankful for. The RSC organic
gardens have produced abundantly this year. Today, for example, I was able to
go into the common house and help myself to cherry tomatoes, a red sweet
pepper, and a bunch of broccoli (thank you, GardenScape Team!). Our bees
produced 80 lbs. of honey this year. Members are learning more about
sociocracy, and the community is moving toward that form of governance. Recent
improvements include covers and lighting for the common house patio, the laying
of flagstone paths, and a custom-built sandbox for the kids. RSC’s investment
in solar energy is already paying dividends. Last night saw the first fire pit
of the season, where stories are shared and relationships are strengthened. And
the men’s and women’s circles continue to meet regularly, as do the book club
and the qigong classes, the community huddle, crafting hours, and a plethora of
opportunities for learning & growth, celebrations, and meaningful
conversations. RSC routinely has three common meals a week. One thing I know
I’ll miss here is the food: we have some excellent cooks! And Thanksgiving at
River Song is legendary, both for the food and for the honoring of indigenous
history.
Eugene is nestled in the heart of the Willamette Valley. I’ve been amazed at
the beauty of the region, with everything from old-growth forests, the stunning
Oregon coast, and the mountains offering hiking, kayaking, birding, and
waterfalls galore. There are more organic farm stands and natural foods stores
than you can explore in a year. There is also world-class culture, with ballet,
opera, theatre, and the symphony just as good as performances you can find in
larger cities. (This is according to one of our members from San Francisco!)
And there are always art exhibits, festivals, indie music, and author readings
to be had. Learn more here: https://www.eugenecascadescoast.org/
Don’t miss out on this special cohousing community on the banks of the
beautiful Willamette River and on this nearly new unit that’s been customized
for greater energy efficiency and comfort.
