Thanks to those of you who sent me some carpet info. I'm on vacation for 3 weeks (actually, just signed on , via slow modem, to clean up my directory for the accumulation while I'm gone). I have, however, done a little looking at the carpet issue, and decided I can't face all the complexities. You should understand that for 1 1/2 years now I have had cement floor with some wool Morrocan rugs on it when the construction/rehab site got cleaned up., I was all ready to try for carpet by last Xmas, when I decided to wait until the windows could be left open for a while. And other things intervened. So here we are, trying to beat the cold. I am leaning towards open windows for as long as possible and normal, synthetic=type carpet. With whatever the risks are. My partner, who builds custom kitchen cabinets and deals with new houses all the time, is bewildered by all this, as he has never run into anyone having problems. His experience. And I know some people do. I just can't face the research. I looked at one of Debra Lynn Dadd's books, and she recommended some healthier version, at $200/sq yard. And as far as I can tell, the PET recycled carpet will have the same problems with backing, etc, from manufacturing process. Anyway, we'll make a decision about this about Sept 19 or so. I guess I am concerned, but not panicked about the risks. Am open to feedback.
