On the thread of the political implications of co-housing, one thing some of us in N Street have joked about is that if co-housing catches on in a major way, a lot less washers, dryers, garden tools, lawn mowers, hopefully cars, camping equipment, and the like will be purchased. Each house won't need its own of everything. Co-housing makes sharing and co-ops so much easier. What would happen to the economy if large numbers of people didn't feel the need to buy, buy buy? They might not feel the need to work as much. They might spend more time at home, less time commuting, shopping etc. They might get to know their kids better, have time to tend gardens ,volunteer in their schools. Who knows all of the ramifications. And some financial powers might be on the losing side of the equation. --- Kevin Wolf 724 N St Davis, CA 95616 phone and fax: 916-758-4211 new email address: kjwolf [at] wheel.ucdavis.edu
