Boston Brunch (9/25/94) report

The brunch in Boston last Sunday was a fun event. Ten people attended
including these Cohousing-L subscribers :

MORRISON [at] TOOK.ENET.DEC.COM Bob Morrison
CWPROECO [at] WORLD.STD.COM Chris M Williams Cohousing Center
DADAMS [at] WORLD.STD.COM David Adams Cornerstones, Arlington, MA
DQS [at] WORLD.STD.COM Diane Simpson
WIGHT [at] WORLD.STD.COM Nancy Wight NV

(kind of a convention of world.std.com users too :)
NV = New View,

Also in attendance was:
Fred H. Olson (me, Mpls) , Sue Warschauer (Sharingwood),
Steve Hecht (NV), Dave Nathan, Bob Newby

Several people sent their regrets that they couldn't make it.

The food was plentiful and good; I had a good time; and the conversation
went on at steady pace. Two highlights:

Chris pointed out that community education course *listings* seemed
to inform a lot of people about the idea of cohousing. Presumably the
courses were worthwhile but simply the contacts from people who read the
listing were noteworthy. Maybe we should offer classes everywhere and
write up carefully crafted course listings, and then cancel most of
the classes due to staffing problems :) (That last sentence WAS in jest!!
-- partly/mostly; at least the last phrase)

There was a representative of Sharingwood community present (Sue,
an associate member who currently lives in the Boston area but
is considering moving to Sharingwood - how about that for an
endorsement?) Sue has met Rob Sandelin! Of course we had to ask
what's Rob really like?  He's a nice energetic guy who plays the guitar;
(I didn't know about the guitar...we all know he's energetic and nice)

Special thanks to Chris Williams and the Cohousing Center in the Boston
area (for now I'll refer to it as "CCB" - Chris what abbrev. do you use?)
hosting the event. Chris works for CCB.

Thanks to Steve Hecht (not yet on the net,
active New View member) for helping with access to the facility.
Chris was also covering the information table for the CCB
at the big Eco Expo in Boston that day/weekend.

I hope to have some information and discussion on the role of the CCB
area posted in the near future. CCB is somewhat like the Cohousing
Company on the West coast. They seem to have worked out a good
consulting , supportive role that respects core groups needs for
autonomy and self-direction.
