I once worked in a carpentry shop that used hot water coils imbedded
in the foundation slab for its heat. I was very impressed with how
comfortable that environment was. I recall the shop owner had installed a
hefty wood-fired furnace in an adjacent building that accommodated four-foot
logs. There was always plenty of firewood, and it seemed we enjoyed a very
luxurious bath of BTUs while working. Because the smoke and soot were
off-site, it also made for a clean heat in the sense of the actually
living/working area.
I have a dream home concept that includes this heating method -- not just for
the house, but for thawing snow on the driveway and walk too. Oh what glory!
