Designing Communities for Sustainable Living

JOURNEY TO SCOTLAND, FRANCE, INDIA, NEW ENGLAND
JAN-MAY '95,
in cooperation with University of New Hampshire
* Learn, participate, and serve in new, innovative communities
working for a sustainable future and creative, compassionate
lifeways.
* Expand your knowledge and skills in community dynamics, eco-
logical literacy, sense of place, world perspectives, mindful
awareness, and life celebration.
* Gain inspiration, reflection time, and guidance for your life-
long course of learning, for new vocational directions, and
for linking with people and nature in an enduring, harmonious
"commons of the Earth."
* Earn transferable credit through Univ. of New Hampshire for 3
interdisciplinary courses in sustainability, the role of food
in society, and "developing" countries.

JAN: ORIENTATION WEEK (Jan 3-10) at Gaia Educational Outreach
Institute in southern New Hampshire.
FINDHORN FOUNDATION, Scotland: 2-week program in sustainable
community living. Findhorn has 30 years of educational work
in nature, eco-design, human development, and spirit.
PLUM VILLAGE, France: participate in 10 days of Winter Re-
treat in this small, international community under guidance
of Thich Nhat Hanh, Vietnamese Zen master, poet, peace/
environmental activist.
FEB: AUROVILLE, South India: studies, service work, and cross-
culture explorations in this int'l community of 1,000 people
from 33 nations whose goal is to "realize human unity."
MAR: MITRANIKETAN, Kerala, India: following 10 days' travel to
cultural and ecological sites in South India, join a remark-
able project in grassroots village empowerment/cooperation
for 2 weeks. Study the unique features of the state of
Kerala with its high quality of life and low GNP. First week
of April in New Delhi meeting environmentalists, officials,
students, & Taj Mahal.
APR-mid MAY: NEW ENGLAND: 5 weeks at Derbyshire Farm for course
work completion, short community visits, synthesis, presen-
tations to UNH classes, evaluation, and closing celebration.
