Viking did send us new spiders--the grates that go on top of the stove, and a
new inside panel for the oven door. Those were free but the cost of the
professional stove man to install the latter was $75, because our stove was
out of warranty. 

Our stove is a commercial grade residential model. I'm not sure exactly what
it is called. The insulation seems fine. We have three walking little
ones--not as many to keep an eye on as some of you have, but excess heat from
the stove does not seem to be a problem.

I don't know how much of a fluke the defects of our stove were. I don't know
that the brand is any better or worse than others.. Just sharing our
experience.
