Geoff Mamlet asked for experiences about blending market price units with affordable. The Boulder CoHousing Group is working with Habitat for Humanity to offer a blended community of folks who can afford $200K and those who can afford far less. (You probably know that "Habitat" is the organization that Jimmy Carter has worked with where folks of means literally help other folks build a house that they can afford.) Boulder is so chronically short of affordable housing that the City of Boulder is strongly considering a plan to provide an 8-acre plot with the stipulation that it have some affordable housing. The coho group plans to totally intermingle the dwellings -- taking care not to create a mini-ghetto. Habitat homeowners will have equal membership rights as the folks paying $200K. I haven't heard in a couple months what has happened with this plan, but I do know the coho group is strongly committed to partnering with Habitat. If somebody wants more detailed info, I'm sure I can find some phone numbers or email addresses. =MikeM=
