Greetings: In a recent general community meeting here at Nyland, the issue of liability surrounding guests came up. We are just about to finish our two guest rooms and several people asked about the issue of liability for people staying there. Since our common house is not a commercial building we can't openly rent out the rooms. Would a guest of mine for example be covered on my personal homeowners insurance if in the middle of the night on the way to the bathroom they tripped on a toy in the commonhouse and hurt themselves? Do you charge for your guest rooms? Is there a concern about a guest getting sick from the community meals? Any examples of how existing communities have dealt with these issues would be very helpful. Feel free to send your answers directly to me and I will post a summary (assuming you can be concise with your postings) on the list for all to read. Thanks, Bill Paiss bpaiss [at] aol.com
