STRAW BALE
CONSTRUCTION
WORKSHOP
SATURDAY & SUNDAY MAY 27/28, 1995
80 BARBADOS UNIT 1
SCARBOROUGH, ONTARIO
(EAST OF DANFORTH, SOUTH OFF EGLINTON)
Plastered straw bale homes were first built in North America about 100
years ago. Many of those original structures are still in use today. We are
seeing a renaissance of this simple, environmentally sound technique which
has empowered many people to construct their own energy efficient and
affordable homes.
We are pleased to offer the public a two day hands-on workshop where
participants will learn by building and plastering a mockup of a straw
bale house. Training will include: history and best practices for ecological
design, strawbuild techniques for foundations, walls and roofs, and system
integration.
The weekend course will be taught by a team of ecologically aware
builders and architects lead by:
Linda Chapman, master architect and permaculture expert
with a support team of:
Tom Ponessa, architect, builder and lecturer
Glenn McKnight, Ecologist, builder and raconteur
Dave Cameron, master tradesman.
Our location is easily accessible by highway and public transit.
Length: 2 days
Fee: $250 plus GST (meals included)
