I would appreciate information from already built or already presold cohousing communities on the numbers of children of school age or younger in your communities (along with the numbers of units and total number of residents). We at the Westchester (New York) Cohousing Community are preparing a proposal for a piece of land that belongs to a school district. They are particularly interested in not increasing the numbers of school age children in the community because they don't want to overburden their facilities and because they are afraid the increase in tax revenues will not compensate for the increase in children. They would prefer to see senior housing on this site. We are arguing that cohousing, due to its diversity, has a smaller percentage of children than does standard single family housing. Is this true based on your experiences? Thank you in advance for your responses. Please e-mail me directly, unless others express an interest in this information.
