Thanks for posting Peanuts. I'll save it as a good description/perscription
of the difference between a Porch and a Stoop.

I did some further research on where the porch came from-as well as some
research on the short history of what we call houses, at least in the western
world. 

It appears that the form of housing we call home just started around 1400 in
Amsterdam-and there was a progressive evolutionary process that went on until
1946- in 1946 the progress ended when  suburbian houses were stripped of
their female qualities.
