The Cohousing on the Internet Panel is scheduled for Friday 9/29 from
11:00 AM to 12:30. We'll try to serve both novices and current users
of the net. I'm expecting the first part to serve as an
introduction to newcommers to the net. The WWW introduction
can serve many longtime email users I suspect. But the
discussion portion partcularly will serve current participants. To
some extent we'll adjust the presentation emphasis based on who comes
as determined by the "pop-up" questions.

Panelists:
fholson [at] uci.com Fred H. Olson
robsan [at] microsoft.com Rob Sandelin
stanifor [at] cs.ucdavis.edu Stuart Staniford-Chen
debbeh [at] Auto-trol.COM Deborah Behrens
Joaniblank [at] aol.com Joani Blank

Outline of presentation.

o Introduction and "pop-up" questions to determine background and
  expectations of attendees [Fred]

o Newcommers getting started on the cohousing-L / on the net
(adjusted based on background and expectations) [Fred]

o World Wide Web (WWW) as repository of cohousing information
o Presentation with overhead transparencies of how it looks
       and works, what's there [Stu]
o Cohousing Resourse Guide and Cohousing-L archives
        - a major resource on WWW [Rob]

o Cohousing-L - an active "working" discussion about doing cohousing
o Dramatization of one discussion thread form Cohousing-L
archives. [All] Not finalized as of 9/21.

o Panel on Internet
[All plus audience, optional opening statements by panelists ]
Generally I (Fred) expect this section to be aimed primarily at
current participants depending on who's in attendance.

        o Usefulness of discussion
        o Social aspects ( Is Cohousing-L a "virtual community" ?)
        o Dealing with information overload
        o Structuring information (archives)
        o Getting started

--- Some further topics I (Fred) thought of that might be covered
in opening remarks or by the panel. Any thing I missed??

the nature of mailing list discussion
asking advice and responses
difficulty of decison making, determining consensus, polling
   participants
thoughts on the large number of "lurkers" and their "anonymity"
aspects of a sense of community present on Cohousing-L
gender and personality influences on Cohousing-L discussion
changes that would improve Cohousing-L discussion
changes currently anticipated under consideration [Fred]
reading the Cohousing-L discussion via America Online

In the resource room I'll have a table (shared with several other
things I'm involved with). This may serve as a gathering place.
I'll have some lists subscribers, frequent posters, messages subjects
etc. that might make interesting browsing.
