I guess I need to clarify my statement about religion and co-housing.
1. If a religion like the Menonites want to start a co-housing community
for their membership and they want to pray before each meal and event as
is their tradition, that is their choice. As long as everyone who might
become a member knows that the religion will be part of the community's
official events and practices, I don't have a problem with it.
2. If a co-housing community is developing or recruiting members from a
wider, diverse population, then religious practices should not be part of
the official events of the community. At least not without a clear
presentation of this to the prospective members before they sign on.
3. If an existing community wants to incorporate religious activities at
its meals events etc, it should get a consensus to do so by the members.
I hope that clarifies my thoughts.
