One of the most important things our group walked away from the conference
with was that the location process can be long and painful. At present we are
3 households who all want community at almost any cost. We have already lost
2 households and it was a demoralizing experience. So- our land search was
minimal. We settled on a piece of land already owned by one of our members
because it certainly was as good as any other piece we've investigated- AND-
we can control it quite easily. We felt, as Joani says, it would be easier to
organize a group around the site than to risk losing future members during
the process. Joani asks:
>> And those of you who have been fortunate to start with
a site, know how much easier it is to gain momentum and fill up your
communities when your visions and fantasies are attached to a real physical
place.
Well- I'll let you know. In the last year we've only had one household
totally commit without a site. I suspect that will change, as will our
motivation to find members. Now that we have money down , the clock is
ticking. We had our first on site potluck yesterday.
