Mountain View, CA group splintered

Occasionally when people unsubscribe from Cohousing-L I ask for 
parting comments.  Recently Eric Fronberg gave me permission to
pass along his comments.  Comments like this can help keep 
the difficulties of cohousing development in perspective.

Oh, just for reference... My wife and I were heavly involved in a couhousing
group in mountain view (just south of stanford university).  We had 8
members and land selected.  Our developer, about a year ago, said that he
didn't have the financial resources to do the development and that we'd
better be prepared to develop the land ourselves.  During our regrouping,
another developer grabbed the land.  :-( We tried to negotiated with the new
developer but couldn't make any headway in getting cohousing to happen on
that land.

The group (some members of which have been working on cohousing for 5+ years)  
splintered.  It's pretty tough to see people reaching their dreams of moving  
in when we were so close.
