Thanks to everyone for the thoughtful responses to my posting concerning class, affluece, and cohousing. I have only received one negative response (so far), and I was expecting many. I understand the spirit of cooperation and concensus that underlies cohousing. Indeed, I find that spirit quite appealing and would be delighted to be involved in group decision making and helping advance the interests of a whole cohousing group, not just my own. I am sensitive to many of the concerns of "leftish" cohousers, and share many of them myself. That said, I just don't see anything wrong with someone wanting to create some prosperity of a material kind for himself and his family. In my posting, I wanted to find out how far down the left-wing road I had to tread before becoming acceptable and "correct" by the usual standards of cohousing types. I think I have a sense that there is more diversity to the cohousing community than I thought, but I would probably have to be careful to avoid a community where my interest in personal prosperity might be viewed as selfish and anticommunitarian. Again, thanks for the insightful thoughts.
