Rob,
        My first thought was about Sidney Jourard saying in his 
TRANSPARENT SELF something to the effect that self-disclosure begets 
self-disclosure---so, 
perhaps, some event or process or piece of a meeting wherein each member 
reflects on his/her own self-interest---and you can lead things off. 
Subsequent thought is that the 
distinction you are making soundsto me like a judgement call, and might 
best be owned as such. 
        Further thought (with a feeling around it!) is that when I'm into my 
own self-interest mode, I might best get out of it by having a sense of being 
heard---with some degree of empathy.
        I'm interested in hearing how this turns out for you.
