I'm sorry to hear that you encountered so much opposition at the
planning commission hearing.

Like it or not,  you're now in the middle of a political campaign.
The best piece of advice I've been given about campaigning is:
concentrate on the 'maybe' people, not the 'no' people.

You might want to think about ways to reach people in the neighborhood
who haven't made up their minds yet about your project, or else to get
friendly neighbors to help you do so.

Whether or not you win at the city council level, you will have to
live near the "noisy neighbors" for a long time;  you might want to
think about meeting with them, too, to find out what compromises might
be possible.
