I heartily concur with Ian that food issues can become very divisive if
you let it.  Tolerance and acceptance is required on both sides of the
issue. However, I will point out that extreme variation in dietary
requirements may keep people from participating in  cooking common
meals. If you have 4 wheatless, 4 non-dairy, 6 meatless, 3 no rice, 4 no
sugar, 7 no cooked vegetables, then preparing community meals becomes
really a huge challenge, much more than some people will want to deal
with.
