Everytime a contractor has to stop and think, it costs you money. One of the 
advantages of standardized floor plans is the contractor can just bang them up 
without having to sweat fussy custom details on each one.  Jim Leach of 
Wonderland homes told me that and he has built more cohousing than anybody. 
Its cheaper to standardize, that's  why developers build spec homes in a 
development.
