During the third meeting(15-17 October 1995) of the Global Eco-village
Network, Eco-Village audits were one of the topics under discussion. Eco-Village
auditing will provide a measuring rod for existing villages and communities
to compare their current status with ideal goals for environmental, cultural,
and social sustainability. The process of village auditing will be an
exploration
of the qualities needed to bring mankind through the 21st century.


The information in these pages is a check-list for projects wishing to review
their own activities. The self audit is arranged around the 4 elements of
air, earth, water and fire, with a fifth element, quintessentia representing
community. For easy download, there is also a PDF file and a plain text
file of the entire Eco-village Audit document. The Farm in Tennessee, USA,
and Crystal Waters permaculture village in Australia have completed
self-audits which you can look at for comparison or information.

You/your community are invited to participate in an audit or to just take a
look at the structure of the audit, we're looking for comments and input.
