The Collaborative Housing Society is pleased to announce that the 3rd Annual Ontario Cohousing Retreat will again be at beautiful Camp NeeKauNis on the shores of Georgian Bay, near Waubaushene. The conference will run from Friday evening June 13 until the afternoon of Sunday the 15th. The retreat was a huge success last year with over sixty adults and children talking, playing, eating, and working together in the spirit of cohousing. This year's programme will start off with a panel discussion on why haven't we seen cohousing in Ontario yet? A panel of leading cohousing group members will discuss what has been tried in an effort to see some common problems and their possible solutions. Next, Ed and Vivian Abbott, co-founders of the Rowanwood Conserver Society Co-operative, will share their insights, successes and dreams as they work to create the FoxFell Friends Community in Orillia. Andrew Hellebust from Ecowerks Technologies Corporation will share his expertise on biological waste treatments. Tom Panessa will be speaking about the joys of using strawbale construction to build structures that are pleasing to the hand, eye and soul. The final session will address how to build community where you live now. Joan Donaghey is a teacher, La Leche League Leader and a human relations enrichment instructor. She will help us brainstorm ways of strengthening community in all of our lives. Cost for the entire weekend including food, lodging and program is only $75 per adult. There is a $15 surcharge for non-members. The retreat is child friendly so bring the whole family! Hopefully this year's retreat will have representatives from every cohousing group in Ontario for a joyous weekend of sharing.
